Patients listed as ALC have technically been discharged from hospital, because the care they need is not what hospitals offer. Most are elderly, and most are in the queue for a nursing home or publicly funded home care. The government should have explained that it makes no more sense for an ALC patient to wait in an acute-care bed than it does for a lung cancer patient to wait in a dental office. Both are in the wrong place.Mr. Ford’s real sin is not his plan to send some seniors to nursing homes they don’t like. It’s his failure – and that of a string of governments before his – to grasp the magnitude of the ALC crisis, and the disaster it spells for the health care system.
Those sectors are all grappling with staff shortages made worse by the pandemic. And it’s not as though the only people waiting are in hospital. The nursing-home queue has more than 39,000 people in it, according to Ontario’s Ministry of Long-Term Care.
They are people not grannies. They need to be near their families and the home they are being transfered to needs to be affordable with air conditioning (should be mandatory). Most people cannot afford 6-9000 dollars a month. Moving them without their consent. No.
'Without consent' is all you need to hear to know this is a lie.
Put a distance limit on it and it would be fine. Even if good intentions the bill creates an environment that could cause huge issues. If someone is placed outside of their area they could be cut off from their family (who in a lot of cases supplements care).
You know who else 'took care of the elderly and lame' by removing consent?
The only people who really benefit from this are the investor’s in LTCs…….putting blame on part of the electoral with the illusion that this government in fixing health care. So conservative of them!

There are 40K people, not 'grannies', on the wait list. All you are doing is making it harder for those in the community to get into LTC. There are no empty beds in Halton Region, Hamilton. Where in the GTA are they? Please list them so the 40k can know about them.
