“If we want to find all of the solutions that really work for people, we need to work together and make sure those people are at the table from the very beginning,” said Kutcher. If elected mayor of Summerside, candidate Dan Kutcher said he plans to form and chair a task force dedicated to address Summerside's housing crisis. - Contributed

“Including many of my friends, they have no hope of ever being able to own their own home,” said Ford. “A lot of them can’t even afford to live here.” Ford also suggested lowering the property tax rates for people building affordable housing to help landlords with increasing maintenance and heating costs.

“Affordable housing, it’s a wide-open comment,” said Stewart, who had not yet declared his candidacy in the upcoming election as of speaking to SaltWire Network on Sept. 9. “Some of it may be affordable to somebody, but people on low incomes and other kinds of situations… it’s obvious that we need more public housing.”
