A tent and temporary shelter remain at Meagher Park in Halifax on July 17. Roland Swim writes that perhaps homes/cottages slated for demolition could be repurposed to help the homeless. - Nicole MunroRoland Swim lives in Tantallon.

How many liveable homes and cottages are facing this destiny in the surrounding area, municipality and province? I am not opposed to owners having the means to construct new homes on their properties but rather than demolishing the old, relocating could provide a home for a family or two. I feel relocation is the wiser, less wasteful solution and could be a positive approach toward reducing our much publicized housing crisis. Depending on the area of relocation permitted by our governing planners, and their seriousness to fulfill that “the Halifax Regional Municipality recognizes that everyone deserves a home,” any group could benefit: the homeless, low-income, young folk who want to stay but may never afford the exorbitant cost of a new home.

Instead of paying for demolition, it’s likely the owner would be willing to contribute a similar amount for relocation. Imagine the warm, heart-shine feeling of seeing children playing around your relocated home as you drive by.
