The supply crunch has made it substantially more expensive for utilities to purchase or produce power, and those costs are being passed on to customers.
Supply crunch? Fracking produces Natural Gas. Oil Co's profit at prices above $38/barrel. US brent is trading at $85+, higher than 2012. We were so called energy independent in 2012, producing more barrels than consumed, so we imported for 1st time since 70's. What gives?
so the best thing to do is outlaw combustion automobiles and forbid gas appliances and power them with electricity

This is a completely manageable problem for a nation that is the largest exporter of oil, one of the largest producers of coal, gas, has nuclear plants, etc. State utility boards should be auditing producer costs NOW.
Utilities companies are doing price gauging. The federal government needs to step in and lower the prices that consumers are paying.
