SAN ANTONIO — Many San Antonio residents will see their garbageThe transition, announced earlier this year as part of the city’s annual budget, is intended to cut down on employee overtime costs and provide more consistent service to residents.

As the city’s population grows rapidly, more residents and homes translate to more garbage customers. San Antonio has seen 3,000 to 4,000 new residential garbage customers every year, said David Newman, the city’s solid waste director.The new collection routes require 15 extra drivers and will cost the city $722,000 this year.
