As I walked around the brand new flat of a mutual friend whose house warming I’d been dragged along to, I stared at allParty-goers gushed at the host over his chic new digs and celebrated his ‘exciting move onto the property ladder’.

I’ve been to the subsequent housewarmings and listened as they shared the struggles of buying and tales of how they dragged themselves onto the property ladder.At first, I couldn’t understand it. How were these people, who in some cases earned less than me, suddenly buying property? Every few weeks, photos from their lavish trips abroad or expensive dinners out would flood my Instagram timeline.

You wouldn’t tell someone who’d climbed Kilimanjaro that you’d had the same experience because you’d walked up Hampstead Heath To be clear, I really couldn’t give less of a s**t whether your parents paid your £40k flat deposit and got you onto the property ladder – but please don’t pretend that you struggled to get there.
