Nursing Homes Ireland has said there is an emerging crisis in the sector due to underfunding of nursing home care | Read more:

Chief executive of the representative body for the homes Tadhg Daly said that nursing homes are tasked with providing care at an unsustainable level, on the back of the closure of 16 homes this year and the loss of over 500 beds.NHI is holding its annual meeting in Kilkenny today and will also hold an emergency meeting to discuss the crisis.

He also said that homes were facing challenges in the recruitment and retention of staff and trying to compete with the pay rates offered by HSE nursing homes.
