The housing secretary tells providers to improve conditions after Awaab Ishak's death due to mould in his home.

Gareth Swarbrick had been in charge of the housing association since 2008.

He said that housing providers should carry out assessments of damp and mould in their properties, as well as any action that may need to be taken to tackle the issue. After Awaab's inquest, Michael Gove said new legislation would hold landlords to account"Where people complain about damp and mould, you must listen; where you find them, you must take prompt action.

"I am putting housing providers on notice, I will take whatever action is required to improve standards across the country and ensure tenants' voices are heard."Speaking after the inquest, Awaab's father Faisal Abdullah and mother Aisha Amin said people should not be housed in places "unfit for human habitation"

There was no mould when he moved in. Has he allowed it to fester without treating it from the started. Many let the flats grow into horrible states so the council will move them to a bigger property. They know they wont be moved unless they let conditions deteriorate.

There are thousands and thousands of properties like this with damp and condensation issues and have been for years and nothing has been done and nothing will change, it's only highlighted now because someone have died. Sadly give it a few weeks and it will all be forgotten again

Shouldn’t those who advocate taking in to the U.K. every waif and stray be put on notice that it’s actually sustainable to do so.

Having watched new items about this, I've gotta ask: Why didn't friends/family help with the mould? Why didn't the family speak to community/religious group for help? Why didn't neighbours offer help? All very well having anger after the fact.

No responsibility on the parents shoulders? They could have opened a window and cleaned the mould, but obvs didn’t do that, so it’s someone else’s fault.

The best solution is to stop taking so called refugees in to the U.K. There’s not enough housing stock for the indigenous population never mind these people.

Let’s not pretend that Gove and the conservatives are doing something honourable here. They have been in government for 12 years and allowed this level of neglect.

Why does UNICEF not pay attention to the innocent children who are killed by direct gunfire in Iran by the criminal, terrorist and corrupt Islamic forces of Iran!!😭🙏🏼🇮🇷🖤🥺🥺😢 Woman-Life-Freedom✌️✌️🇮🇷✌️✌️Kian Pir Falak

What about private landlords. Maybe even worse. Didn't help the Tories voted against laws to help this situation

💔💔😢😢

This needs to be taken out of local council control. They are not fit to manage housing. Put it to central government and establish a proper housing authority with controls and back stops in place that hold people accountable. An unnecessary death of a child.

Poor lad. RIP.

I once had a small drip in the room I was sleeping in from the adjacent shower. It produced a small amount of mold that was quickly remedied by the landlord. I later found out there was a hole in my chest, now healing. These people live in a death trap, comparatively speaking.

How do housing associations work, are they for profit organisations?

We’ve not come remotely close to justice for grenfell so I shall not hold my breath here!

It's the same old story, wait until someone dies before taking action.

Awaab Ishak: Housing boss sacked over death of boy killed by mould in RochdaleThe one-bedroom flat was managed by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, which has now bowed to political pressure and sacked its chief executive, Gareth Swarbrick, with immediate effect. “Ms Kearsley said: 'How does this happen? How in the UK 2020?” It happens because there’s more people living in uk that there is houses or flats . London is at a breaking point and so are many other areas. It’s boils down to willingly blind politicians. He should be prosecuted for manslaughter, and so should all management that dealt with the home. They knew about the problem and deliberately did nothing. At the very least, they should be rehoused. They have blood on they hands. For sure, there are various forms of murders.

Seriously, what do you expect in Rochdale?

Housing body that ran flat where Awaab Ishak died of mould is 'racist', former employee claimsOne employee, who worked at Rochdale Boroughwide Housing for six years, told Sky News: 'The culture was horrible. It was bullying, toxic for the employees. It's not fit for purpose at all.' It was only a matter of time before the *unsubstantiated* claims of racism reared it's ugly head. No surprise here. Black & ethnic minorities have been, and will always suffer the worse treatment when it comes to social housing. Systemic racism in full sight, for all to see and witness, yet ignored. Knew the race card would be brought out
