Metrolinx has given notice of its intent to cut down five historic trees on the grounds of Osgoode Hall after previously suggesting that it wouldn’t move forward with the clearing until the completion of an independent review.

The transit agency tells CP24 that the trees need to be removed in order to accommodate the upcoming archeological assessment of the property. That assessment is being conducted before work begins on a new Ontario Line station in the area.

Metrolinx says that a draft notice was recently shared with the Law Scoiety of Ontario for "further discussiont." That notice suggested that the removal of the trees would take place on Dec. 5, however Metrolinx says that date could change. Metrolinx faced criticism this summer over its plans to tear up a portion of the grounds of Osgoode Hall, including from Mayor John Tory.

He said that Tory met with Metrolinx about the Osgoode Hall site after raising concerns this summer and “will be following up again in the days ahead.”

Maybe they should finish the cross town first before starting something else.

To all the people complaining about these 5 trees. 1. How many trees were cut down where your house or apartment currently sits? 2. How many trees were cut down to build the house that you live in? Have you replaced those trees yourself yet? If not. Don't be a hypocrite.

Might as well plow through whatever is in the way and complete Allen road further south (thanks a lot boomers)

People digust me, kill the trees seriously!! You don't have trees you don't have air to breathe. 150 years of growth should be protected. Move the damn station. Metrolinx you make me sick and will never use it ever.

They should bring 🐎 carts because their trains don't work anyways!

Plant double somewhere else. Fuck cares

People: We need more transit. metrolinx: ok but some homes and trees need to go to make room. People: nooooo. People: we need more housing. Govt: will use the green belt. People: noooo. Can’t win sometimes.

Hey Metrolinx leave those trees alone! Downtown has no canopy left between construction of new buildings and road work. It's looking abysmal. Think about it.

Chop everything...we don't need any...no statues, no trees ,since you are at it go ahead and take out benches too...who needs them?

Caroline Mulroney is a lawyer and Minister of Transportation. Will she act?

Metrolinx is out of control. reigninMetrolinx

Why cut down the trees 🌳 we need them and find a different place for the trains

Who does Metrolinx think they are, the Ford government in the green belt?

Nothing gets done in Canada ... every decision takes weeks, months, years to debate. Oh then they'll cancel the decision and make another one.

Yup sounds like Toronto

Yep, this thing we are planning on doing my hurt the environment. So to make sure we don't hurt the environment, we have to cut down these 200yr old trees irreparably damaging the environment to make sure we don't .... ... wait, what? The term Dolt, doesn't cover it.

Stop!!!

Sad

Cuts the review short

Why not relocate them

Someone should chop Metrolinx

Let’s tie ourselves to the trees.

JohnTory derelict of duties

What on earth does one have to do with another?

Metrolinx is a vile organization that provides no value to the people of Ontario.
