Ottawa's mayor is urging the Ontario provincial government to consider the 'dramatic financial implications' a controversial new housing bill could have on the city's coffers, and to give people more time to weigh in on it.

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is calling for the province to extend consultation on the controversial Bill 23 and says the bill, in its current form, could have a major impact on the city's finances.

In a letter sent Friday to Steve Clark, Ontario's minister of municipal affairs and housing, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe says Bill 23 couldKnown as the More Homes Built Faster Act, Bill 23 is the province's attempt to significantly boost Ontario's housing stock. The Progressive Conservative government has promised to build 1.5 million homes in 10 years, including 151,000 in Ottawa alone.

That would lead to an "infrastructure funding gap," wrote Sutcliffe in the letter, sent three days after Sutcliffe and Clark"Given this new information, I want to encourage you again, as I did on Tuesday, to extend the consultation period before the legislation is passed, and to consider the dramatic financial implications on the City of Ottawa of the changes before proceeding with the bill," Sutcliffe wrote.

Well I'm guessing it's another waste of time for Ottawa mayor to be in Toronto Ford is out off office again must be out shopping for black Friday sales maybe try his lake front cottage he's probably got covid again 😉

Oh well

Big North American cities are spread out too much already and seem to have been built for cars. And individual houses or detached ones won't solve problems. Rental/apt housing is really needed for millions of people! Don't be rash and sacrifice green space around cities.

fordnation is just a taker, pure & simple I mean, his personal wealth has ballooned to over $53 MILLION in barely 4 years

This saems to indicate our laws before liberals in power were suitable, the purpose must be the all out attack on our civil liberties, and distraction from the total distrutcion of normal hardworking Canaians. Side effects of the jab in the working class incapacitating. Why/who?

Unfortunately, Doug is not at the office and cannot take your call at this time

“City coffers” simply means their free money paid for by the citizens.

Mayor tells provincial minister to slow housing bill with 'dramatic financial implications' for OttawaA change to require the phase\u002Din of new development charges would cut them by $130 million over five years, a letter to the province says. Oh gosh! A politely worded missive?! Wow, Mark! If that doesn't get Queen's Park's attention, I don't know what will! Our new mayor, really fighting for Ottawa here. 🤦‍♂️ StephenBlais With Bill 23 and pandemic funding ending, I think Ottawa will have a significant budget deficit. I doubted _MarkSutcliffe would be able to keep to his promise during election of 1.5% tax rise given high inflation. I think Ottawa would be faces with tax hike and_or service cut.

Regardless who owns this we voted this. Stop spreading hate and division CBC iamdavidmiller It's almost as if they knew something the public didn't, and that Doug Ford had promised them something in return for their financial support. But that would be outright corruption so it couldn't possibly be the case... How much did they contribute to FORD’s campaign?
