Affordablehousing in Canada often feels unattainable, but CMHC believes it's possible - with all hands on deck. CMHC_ca | realestate realestatenews housing

argues that it’s attainable… with all hands on deck.from CMHC authored by Deputy Chief Economist Aled ab Iorwerth. The report, released Monday, examines Canada’s affordability challenges with an interesting preface: “the scale of the challenge is so large that the private sector must be involved — governments cannot do this on their own,” says the agency.

Later in the report, CMHC analysis various metrics to demonstrate the affordability challenges at play. According to the data, Canada has seen rapid price growth over the past decade, with a rate of increase second only to New Zealand amongst 16 developing countries. With the livelihoods of all Canadians at stake, CMHC calls on a variety of policy approaches to address different income levels.

For households with more income, the challenge is similar — more supply is desperately needed — but the solution involves “more private-sector investment… particularly in the rental sector,” says CMHC.

Government can’t solve housing issues alone, private sector must be involved, CMHC report saysThe national housing agency says rent subsidies and more social housing are helpful, but more needs to be done For instance, provincial goverments are the only goverments in control of the housing crisis, and the bank of Canada, not the federal goverment as some would like you to belive!! Provincial only goverments are to blame!! At the behest of the Liberals - Chretien and Martin, the CMHC stopped building 25,000 Section 95 co-ops in the 1990s and the private since has created 'affordable' rents at $2500/mo, not much hope here.
