, authorities with the Brookville Borough Police Department in Jefferson County said a woman is facing charges of stealing over $10,000 from the Brookville Band Boosters Club.

Authorities said it all started when an investigation into 43-year-old Carolyn Bailey began in October, when the club’s president reported several discrepancies with the band boosters’ financial records. Bailey served as the club’s treasurer from August 2019 through September 2022, but claimed that she resigned from the position once the club’s president noticed the discrepancies.

According to an affidavit, an investigation into the club’s financial records revealed over $14,000 in missing funds. However, Bailey claimed that she paid approximately $4,000 of the missing money back. But when police interviewed Bailey, she admitted to “fudging the numbers” on the club’s finances in order to try and cover up the missing funds, the
