People living on a Mansfield street say their neighbours were "screaming and banging on people's doors" to warn them about a large fire in the early hours of the morning. Crews from five fire stations across Nottinghamshire attended the incident on Union Street, which has left the roof of one house at the end of the road partly caved in.
"We eventually came back inside because there was just too much smoke outside. I have lived here for around two years but I don't know who lives in the house." Neighbours therefore say that the fire could have been much worse. Liam Pardoe, 33, who lives on Union Street with his partner and children, said: "We were actually asleep when everything happened but we had a message from someone who had heard about the fire asking if we were okay so that's when we found out.
