Despite a national fall in house prices over the past 12 months, Adelaide's went in the opposite direction, leaving home ownership out of reach for now for some people.

abc.net.au/news/adelaide-house-prices-have-remained-high/101823320Housing data is a double-edged sword: Price rises might be welcome news to those who have already bought property, but can make the prospect of home ownership seem more remote than ever for those who haven't.Prices in regional South Australia rose 17.1 per cent in the past 12 months

Mr Jefferies used to look at the real estate listings on a weekly basis, but admits he has not been to any inspections in the past few years. New CoreLogic data shows prices rose more in Adelaide than in any other capital city over the past year, while regional South Australia topped the charts for price increases in country areas across Australia.compared with a national fall of 5.3 per centPrice increases in Adelaide were highest over the year in the northern suburbs, but they have dropped slightly over the past month and the past quarter in both Adelaide and in regional areas.

"It's been pretty surprising, I honestly thought we'd start to slow down by June of 2022 but it hasn't been that way," Port Lincoln real estate agent Steve Prout said of the regional market.

Is home ownership a right?

Poor Sam. Refuses to a be a 20 year slave to our corrupted property ponzi economy. So will likely be a homeless retiree.

When ever has it been easy and heap to buy a house 🏠 🤔 Relativities come in to play as the years roll on. Banks are the problem taking double the amount borrowed with compound interest, if this rip off was modified then houses would become more affordable

Clearly then Sam needs to increase the amount he earns.

Sam should get a better job and move to a cheaper are.

Earn more then

Thats about double what it used to be in Perth.

Well sam should become a religious preacher or politician. Sam will be able to buy a 100 houses..

Of course if I bought where I grew up it’s $1.8milion so that 15 times my annual salary . So I bought in an area tha is $500,000 that 4 times my annual salary. I think Sam needs a reality check and stop whining

Those prices are dirt cheap. If SA wasn’t such a shit place I’d move there.

Sam needs a better paying job.

Surely you can buy something for $600-700k in Adelaide I mean it's no Sydney or Melbourne.

Sustainability is 3.5 years is it not?

I bought a house by myself in an outer suburb aged 24 and interest rates went to 17.8%. I was left $46 a month to live on so got a second job. Very happy I persevered. Half your income is nothing!

You will own nothing and be happy

It is time the government intervened in the housing market like it did in the 1940s. Town planning also needs to be better.

Migration migration migration Stop importing people and with our natural sustainable environmentally friendly popultion decline should make housing more affordable. Or you know more people to keep the GDP growing for the pollies. What ever.

And that's what's changed My house in 2000 cost $95,000 about three years wages. Today it's worth $650,000

Huge money grab for certain institutions. Governments, banks, insurance etc. You have the BS cost of the property then interest on top of that, 20% deposit, stamp duty, surveyance, legal fees, ongoing insurance, maintenance. All this while being tied down to your house for 30 yrs

Would bringing in 200k immigrants each year affect the availability and price of inner city housing?

Mate, you don't need a $15mil home.

So does Sam expect to be handed a free home to him.

So get a better job or work harder like we all did.

He says house prices are 15x what he makes and the numbers there are 400k-500k. So Sam makes between 26k and 33k a year. Is this really an article about a part-time min wage worker complaining they can't single-handedly afford a 400-500k home

Sam should get a side hustle or lower his expectations.

In the segment Sam is looking at houses in Woodcroft. Clearly out of his affordability. Buy somewhere you can afford, like Elizabeth, get in the market & work your way up. Your first house is not your forever house.

Sam needs OF

House ownership is not for everyone, especially with so many building regulations and laws 'to keep you and the planet safe.' Cheap housing went out with fibro and chain-wire fences.

If people just stopped buying houses, the prices would drop real quick.

Sam needs a better job or lower expectations.

What makes him think he’d be on that same wage for twenty years? Unless he purposefully wants to stay in the same work despite it not fitting his goal of home ownership..

So thats about award rate. Well maybe he needs to rob the rich executives who hog all the bonuses

Cool, it would cost me 20x mine

If only Sam voted One Nation.. demand from immigration pushing housing out of reach for average Aussies.

Work harder .. it helps 100%.

The comments here regarding Sam are absolutely despicable. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. To belittle, demean and outright insult a generation of Australians condemned to servicing your mortgage due to a culture of predatory housing investment is disgusting.

BUY SOMEWHERE ELSE CHEAPER!!!

After stupidly wasting my time school I had little option in my 20’s but to find a skill to learn. Didn’t travel. Drove rubbish. Missed out on a lot. After working my A off I got better jobs & eventually ended up with a great house & a couple of investments. Own your own result

The comments on this article, wow I guess the ANZAC's died so we can belittle our fellow Australians, pathetic

If Sam earns $40K a year and is on a single income , it will be tough to own a $500K house . However he can still own a modest 2 bed room apartment for 200k-300K.

I read 'buying a horse'

Why not get a supplementary job or if too lazy look to buy a cheaper apartment. I had 3 jobs when I was his age. Why do people always want a free ride?

Sam is aiming too high He’s a single person on a low wage. It’s never been easy on that wicket. He should be looking to buy in Adelaide’s outskirts for $300k. Would also help if he got a second job or a partner.

Stop eating smashed avo and chai lattes...

. Does ABC News count this as a balancing article... Pathetic. They haven't even shown the data where a house in 1993 was three times a wage and now its 15 times. Do you think that data may have been relevant to this article... .

15x annual income is not unusual. You can get a 30yr loan and work your arse off like the rest of us no? Maybe improve your income or find a life partner to double the income? What's the story here?

This incels never leaving his parents basement.

Locking everyday Australians out of the housing market is unsustainable public policy. A political reckoning is inevitable.

Sam, is poor!

How is telling the ABC going to help? Do what my nephew & his wife did. Both worked 2 jobs for 10 years to save the deposit. They bought their house and then had kids, simples.

Bruh upskill yourself and get a better job lmaooo

Labor plans to make it worse by increasing mass immigration.

Why should everyone have to live in a house? More so why need to own!

Well, the LNP think he should either earn more or get a mill or so from his parents.

Hang in there Sam you little Aussie battler, boomers haven't finished with you yet.

Maybe Sam needs to accept that he can’t own a house on minimum wage. There are consequences to his life decisions.

Looks like it’s a townhouse or apartment for Sam. Push on.

Time for Only Fans?

How did we get to this insanity? I bought my first house in 1978, I could only borrow two and a half times my salary!!! This was in England.

Thankyou RBAInfo for creating this situation.

Stop the whining!!! Must be racist. Rent is about to skyrocket because the “public housing prime minister is opening the floodgates to mass immigration. When the rent goes through the roof, it’ll go to 20 times after servicing the cost of living hikes. “Skill shortages”

Move somewhere cheaper or get a better job. Or complain and be a victim
