It's a desirable location

A Nottinghamshire village has been deemed one of the poshest in the country for its 'chocolate box' appeal. Colston Bassett has been named in the Telegraph's 54 Poshest Villages in Britain list, with the average house price costing £786,955.

This is not the first year the village has been recognised for its desirable location, high house prices and local amenities. These include a school, the Martin's Arms pub, the Little Day Retreat spa and Colston Bassett Dairy Ltd, which produces some of the traditional blue cheeses that the village is famous for.

Colston Bassett is a small, quaint village with just a handful of homes, meaning despite it being one of the country's poshest, only so many people can enjoy living there. It is believed that many households are spending a small fortune renting in lesser locations for months until a suitable home comes up in the right village.

According to a Savills analyst: "People want villages that have a bit of everything, from schools to stunning countryside, with accessibility to cities and transport infrastructure. Less well-trumpeted factors count too, such as the main road through the village should only lead to other villages." It is believed that people enjoy an authentic village feel and sense of history, but also want modern amenities close by, such as yoga studios, shops and running clubs.
