A Pendle man who wants permission to demolish 30 old garages and build new homes on land behind terraced homes in Barrowford claims he is being ‘messed about’ by a long-running planning process and he has had racist comments from some objectors.
Objectors to Mr Ali’s plan have highlighted elements including the size and design of the planned new homes, allegedly tight car parking spaces, prospects for old and new trees and protection of bats, which some claim live in the old trees. “We could have done things at the site seven months ago to kill the trees. But we have not. We are here at this meeting. We have had two tree reports produced. All the trees are old and include ash trees, which are no longer given protection orders. We have reduced the number of planned houses and less trees would come down under our new plan. We have done everything we can.
He said: “We must keep this discussion professional. We might not always agree but we must listen to people when they speak.”‘STUNNED AT RECOMMENDATION’ One man in the audience raised concerns about flooding and overloaded storm drains, and also asked what the council would do to protect bats and trees.
He said: “I have spoken personally to residents in the area. This new plan is different to the one the parish council commented on. However, the only good news is that the number of planned houses has come down. Our concerns about design, lack of parking space, trees and other issues remain.
