Warriors guard Steph Curry and his wife Ayesha have joined their neighbors in opposing a the development of a multifamily housing development near their home.Warriors superstar Steph Curry and his wife Ayesha Curry penned a letter to Atherton city leaders voicing their opposition to a proposed multifamily housing development behind the couple's $30 million home in the swanky town.

"Safety and privacy for us and our kids continue to be our top priority and one of the biggest reasons we chose Atherton as home," the Currys wrote in an email to the city's mayor and city manager. If the project is approved contractors would knock down a $3.9 million home and in its place build 15 to 18 three-story townhomes on Oakwood Boulevard.

The Curry family isn't alone in opposing the plan. Many of their neighbors and residents in Redwood City are against the state-required proposal to provide multifamily housing for all income levels.Oakwood Boulevard divides Atherton and Redwood City. "This location is not set up for that type of traffic and overflow parking, etc. that you would expect from that a development that size," said Redwood City resident David Perry."People pay millions of dollars to live here and expect, in return, privacy, and space," said one Atherton community member.DAILY NEWSLETTERthat I have read and agree

I imagine there is more to this story. Many alternative solutions could be reviewed. If his view is that he is better than others and does not care about housing struggles, (as the article insinuates) then he should buy the land and choose the families to be his tenants.

Fox is foxing

For the people that are complaining about how he does not want Loan come housing near his multi million dollar home I don’t blame him people that live in those dwellings do not take care of their stuff. Overtime they just run it down and his homework depreciate

Those multi family homes will still go for over 2 Million a piece on the low end.

Sorry, didn’t have enough space to finish my thought. When scientists who are contributing to the world dont even get paid a quarter of what he is being paid!! 🙄 What a darn nonsense.

Who do they think they are to oppose this housg. develop. Hope the hoysg. departm. will move on with the project. Just because he is playing basket ball doesn’t mean he should have any special favors. He is being paid way too much already just to throw a stupid ball in a basket.

I wouldn’t want that built behind my $30 mil dollar home either.

I don’t feel bad. You can move

Build your own fence or move…

Regardless of socioeconomic status how about stop developing land?

This article failed to mention when he bought the house there was supposed to be no view obstruction... This will have people looking into his yard... It had little too did with poor people. And affordable housing in Atherton should be an oxymoron.

The hypocrisy is so vile! Democrats like StephenCurry30 love to virtue signal. But there is nothing virtuous about supporting social & political policies for which you personally bear none of the negative consequences. This is why I don’t watch the NBA

When you elect TheDemocrats this is the end result.

Isn't it interning how TheDemocrats like the Curries are always in support of high density housing until it's literally in their backyard.

Stop yer bs. You know damned well that as soon as people discover exactly where the Curry family lives, their level of privacy will change.

Must be nice!! 💰

Well my concern is that the complex will be a luxury one. Still adding to the US housing issue/crisis we’re facing.

It is interesting and very sad to observe the extensive 'them vs us' mentality in the comments and in this story. Prejudice and discrimination are very strong.

Should build a section 8 housing development and it should be welcomed by the great people of Atherton inclusion and equity 🤣

So does that mean he's 'allowing' housing in his backyard? Bring in section 8

He has his governor to thank for changing the building codes.

Ain't that about nothing.

Despite StephenCurry30's efforts to keep 'apartment dwelling poor folks' out of his neighborhood. Steph ayeshacurry 's letter to the City of Atherton trying to keep the 'dangerous people' out by demanding the city change fence code, which he knew would never happen. warriors

NIMBY

my first thought is I don’t want to live near the Currys ..

Lol… Showing everybody who they really are.

I agree

People need to stop preventing housing for those who cannot afford $30 million homes- that’s ridiculous, not everyone wants to live in the projects

Wonder how this one will shake out?

The article fails to mention that this relates to SB9, which is irresponsibly mandating new high-density housing everywhere in our state. Picture a wooded, rural town being forced to build high-rise apartments. That’s what this is, and it’s coming to your neighborhood.

richpeopleproblems

Steph Curry is also critical of income inequality…..while making 12x the avg NBA salary and 210x the highest paid female pro basketball player. Figure that one out

Atherton I’m surprised he can even afford to live there let alone be so well off to complain and try to prevent others. Yes it’s for the rich but I think this is more about a place for the working class that service Atherton they shouldn’t have to bus or commute in

And just like that Steph will be voting republican this coming election

And I don't blame them and why is this news

It is understanding that they might be concerned about what type of neighbors they would be but it could easily be interpreted as elitist.

Hypocrites

Or they could buy the land and never have to worry about it.

Oh he lives in Atherton?

Entitled much? It’s time to stop admiring rich people for being fortunate.

If it were you, would you let them near you? Would you mind them living near you now? It’s so easy to criticize when you’re not the one going through it.

Nimbys lol

Well duh, Atherton is the most expensive zip code in California!

I don’t blame them. I don’t won’t that housing in my neighborhood either. And it’s freakin’ Atherton! Duh.

It's like I say all the time... Akron wants to be in Atherton's backyard , not Atherton wanting to be in Akron's ... Best of both worlds Ain't for everybody and I'm glad they have a preference, they deserve it.

Offer $8M for the property. Problem solved...

😂🤣😂🤣

Rich people better start voting more conservatively, or they’re going to have projects next to their multi-million dollar homes.

lol why is swanky in the title? All of atherton is high high end homes. Yea atherton probably shouldn’t have multifamily housing, and that’s OK! Put that next door in Menlo Park
