The ice and freezing rain have left thousands of homes and businesses in North Texas without power.

Outages in Dallas County went up overnight. Oncor reports more than 8,700 customers do not have electricity this morning.

Tarrant County has about 2,500 outages. Most other outages are in rural areas like Henderson, Hopkins and Anderson counties.Oncor does not have an estimate of when the power will be restored.The icy roads are forcing health care and other essential workers in North Texas to find different ways to get to work.The problem is not the state’s power grid. Ice is building up on power lines and causing some to snap.
