The Scottish Government has put in place a round-the-clock “waking watch” to alert residents in the event of a fire breaking out at the flats.

Kaukab Stewart, Kelvin MSP and Alison Thewliss, Glasgow Central MP, said following a Single Building Assessment of a development in Glasgow Kelvin and Glasgow Central, as part of its Cladding Remediation Programme, the Scottish Government has taken a precautionary measure to address a fire safety risk.STV News reported it has seen a copy of the letter from the government sent to residents at Lancefield Quay on the River Clyde about the fire safety measure.

The Government has imposed the measure after the developer at the site failed to make improvements detailed in a report last year. She said: “I truly empathise with the situation people are in and I have been working with them over many months to find a solution to the issue of defective cladding. “Having co-written to Cabinet Secretary Shona Robison with my colleague Alison Thewliss MP, I welcome the active role she is playing in pursuing all avenues urgently to resolve matters.

“Residents should be in no doubt that I will continue to support them, especially at such a distressing time.Thewliss added: “I am deeply concerned to hear the issues being faced by residents in the affected development and understand this will be a worrying time for many. “Along with Kaukab Stewart MSP, we have reached out to Cabinet Secretary Shona Robison to convey these concerns – it is reassuring to see the Cabinet Secretary dealing with this matter urgently and I hope a resolution is reached as soon as possible.”
