The firm added: “We regularly review and update these processes and so we are confident they are fit for purpose. Nonetheless we are currently reviewing them again to reconfirm they are robust and see if we can make any improvements.“We have suspended forced installation of prepayment meters while we conduct this latest review.”

. We would not switch a customer to prepayment without advanced notice and installing a prepayment meter is always a last resort, only after we have exhausted all other options to speak to and work with customers on debt repayment.

Strange that they don’t manage to find their way into vulnerable customers who have been waiting for over two months with repeated cancellations to repair 🆙a condemned boiler then 🤷‍♀️ Get rid of them all and nationalise it all back. Disgusting and the government won't do jack when you think about are you surprised they are causing people to go into debt so make people pay more with prepayment to make more money

Energy firms Shell, Utilita and British Gas stop forced installation of prepayment metersAn investigation by i found courts are rubber-stamping hundreds of warrants allowing firms' debt agents to forcibly enter homes to fit the meters in just minutes, with magistrates warning they have 'no choice' but to grant them Shell Energy and Utilita have said they have suspended warrants until the end of winter. Their decisions follow British Gas which announced that it is suspending all prepayment warrant activity “at least until the end of winter”.
