, rotated not just beds but chairs — of which there were three, plus three more stools — and forks, of which there were four. They bought their own linens and made shelves out of storage boxes.A high demand for seasonal workers and a housing crisis mixed with laissez-faire visa sponsors and predatory landlords has made

In order to maintain a semblance of fairness, 12 foreign students from Argentina on J-1 visas who have been crowded into a one-bedroom apartment working in Park City for the past two months, use a lottery app to pick which mattress they get to sleep on for the week, pictured on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023.for Park City, which becomes home to more than 2,000 of the seasonal workers each winter — some of the most in the country.

Neither Park City nor any of the sponsors have a liaison on the ground to serve as point person for workers facing housing issues. Instead, students often get information from Facebook forums. The city also has no people-per-room restrictions like other resort towns, other than its fire code. Then one of them saw an ad for a one-bedroom condo on the real estate website Trulia. It was advertised for $6,000 per month but had the benefit of being right at the base of the ski hill and close to a bus line. Plus, for an extra fee, they could all live together.

The property management company provided eight new mattresses to supplement the king-sized bed and pull-out couch that came with the furnishings. In addition, the men said, it offered to let them add a 13th roommate for an extra $1,200 per month. A representative of Summit Key told The Salt Lake Tribune in a voicemail that only five of the men had signed a lease and that the others should not have been living at the property. Subsequent voicemails left on the Summit Key answering system were not returned.

Unfortunately I can’t open the article without paying for a subscription. Digital press is becoming unbearable.

This is what happens when capitalism turns housing into a wealth accumulation strategy in resort towns. Nightly rental owners cannibalize housing stocks and predatory landlords victimize seasonal and year round workers inside of what little is left.

Unfortunately this has been a problem for many years. Think if you were young looking for a seasonal job, minimal wages then try to find housing in Park City…crazy No affordable housing..NONE!

Arrest and charge the slum lord ⚡️

Why are their faces kept out of every shot? Obviously the landlord knows who they are, their employers now what is going on, why do they fear the public knowing their identities?

It's Park City.. That's the price. It's not for everybody

Shame on this property management. I hope further investigation will happen and that regulation can be enforced. $12k can buy you a lot. The advantage taken by these young people should be returned.

Can’t blame you, shame on the management

VailResorts reported record revenue at 2.5 billion last year. This, after ski patrol had to threaten a strike just to make $15/hr, and then promises from PCski president to ‘do better’ towards the employee experience.

Slaves to ski resorts rich clientele. Indoctrinated workers.

Those who are harboring them there have plenty of extra rooms. It's so bazaar that the adults in Utah push for illegals while their own kids are dying of fentanyl overdoses in their basements.

One word: Vouchers

This should be a crime.
