Neighbours reeling after being woken by sirens as woman dies in fatal flat fire

To look at the property, a brick built semi-detached house on a quiet side road in Chorley, you wouldn't know anything had happened.

Now, a police cordon remains in place around the entrance to the house, and officers mill around outside. Fire crews confirmed they were called to the scene at 06:48 on Saturday morning .They also confirmed that a woman, who has not yet been named by police or fire crews, was brought out of the property by firefighters, but was later pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the cause of the fire has now been launched.

Another neighbour said “We used to see her feeding the birds out of the side of the house, but I hadn’t seen her in a while. It’s such a shock”
