Of north Norfolk's 55,000 properties, nearly 6,000 are either second homes or are empty long-term.

"There isn't anywhere really to rent and the places that are here are too expensive," says Ms Robins.

She bought her house in Wells in 2018 with a view to retiring to the town from her home in London in 2021. The coronavirus pandemic forced her to bring forward her plans and she moved to Wells the day before the first lockdown in 2020. The organisation, itself modelled on similar groups in north Norfolk, currently has 31 properties it is letting out to key workers in Wells. It has 46 individuals and families on the waiting list of whom six are currently classed as homeless.

"There are big differences between them," she says. "Second home owners often plan to live here one day and can make a very valuable contribution to the community while others only come now and again and just use it as a holiday home. Whether it will work, she says, remains to be seen, because there is nothing to prevent who those homes will be sold on to in the future.

I’m confused as to why the focus isn’t around professionals landlords. If someone is lucky enough to have a second home / holiday let, good for them. Now, if we’re looking at people/companies that snap up every property going it’s up to the gov to tax accordingly to prevent it

Don't let Care4Calais knows they'll move in their illegal sex abusers

Why pick out north Norfolk in particular? Many parts of the UK are effected by this. There are two different viewpoints. 1) homes for local residents but 2) there would be more unemployment/less income as the local economy is driven by tourism. Chicken or egg scenario.

Just make sure Norfolk remain for predominately North/English folk. Defend the Shires, with extreme prejudice. lol

What has the word 'largely' added to that sentence? Nothing at all.

So? If the taxes are paid and they aren’t in disrepair ..

And?

I live in North Norfolk, and it's a common gripe here. But it's a gripe that usually overlooks one of the more common reasons why people have second homes here - they are inherited from parents/grandparents who retired here then died. These, surely, aren't unfair!

So? Another pitch to repossess second homes
