The work is being undertaken by the Peter McVerry Trust as part of a €2.4 million regeneration of two vacant Georgian buildings in the city centre.CEO of the Peter McVerry Trust Pat Doyle said there is a particular need for single bed units for their clients, as it is very difficult to get these types of dwellings in the private construction market.
"This development meets a number of needs in fulfilling the huge demand for this type of home and it is also regenerating two fine Georgian buildings in Limerick city centre, which have been vacant for six years and which are close to all services and amenities for clients when they move in," Mr Doyle said.
"It's a refurbishment as opposed to a new build which speeds up the process and helps with sustainability." In 2022, Peter McVerry Trust supported over 12,000 people nationally, including more than 400 people in Limerick who availed of housing and resettlement services. The charity currently manages over 113 homes in Limerick city and county and will shortly launch the first 14 homes in its modular home project in Delmege Park in Moyross on the north side of the city.
