The Govt has defended its use of CSO figures suggesting that almost 30,000 new homes were delivered last year. The Opposition says completion certificate data indicates that only 23,751 new dwellings actually came on stream

Opposition parties have pointed to new figures, based largely on completion certificates last year, which indicate that 23,751 new dwellings were actually delivered.

It added that the data is also checked on an ongoing basis against Building Energy Rating certificates. These certificates are recorded by the Building Control Management System, overseen by the National Building Control Office. The spokesperson said that"Deputy O'Broin is attempting to politicise and cast a shadow over the Central Statistics Office reporting. It does not suit the Deputies narrative that the overall Government target for 2022 was exceeded, and significantly so".
