An organization says it's struggling to find stable housing for incoming Ukrainian refugees amidst an influx of people looking for help.

Posted: Feb. 18, 2023 6:05PMHelp Ukraine Vancouver Island says it’s struggling to find stable housing for incoming Ukrainian refugees and it’s seeing an influx of people as the deadline for a federal visa program is set to expire.

“Between August and the end of December, we were averaging 10 people per week on Vancouver Island and we are now averaging 40, and that number is going to keep going up,” said McNamara.settle on Vancouver Island, but a looming deadline is worrying the group as an influx of Ukrainians quickly arrives in Canada.

. HUVI says a lack of housing only further delays payments since some people don’t have a fixed address. McNamara estimates between 20 to 50 people do not have stable housing at the moment. At least ten of those are unaccompanied minors.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.“It becomes even more urgent when we’re dealing with a minor that we need to find a safe and stable place for these people to go,” said McNamara.

absolute slap in face to Canadian taxpayers when they themselves cannot get housing & pay for these people to come here & complain but BCers like being virtue signalers

Boo fucking hoo. Take care of our own first!!!

Go back and help your country.

Housing crisis. Vancouver Island is not an easy or affordable place to find housing for anyone. Definitely a foolish choice for funneling refugees.

Very irresponsible for the Gov to issue visas to refugees if they don't have anywhere to put them when we're already in a housing and homeless crisis. If there is no housing there is no housing and they shouldn't be allowed to come to Canada without it secured ahead of time

Ukrainians training on tanks in Germany being warned that a swastika or any other symbols of fascism is punishable by a large fine and up to 3 years in prison.

Canadians are homeless. Foreigners to the back of the line.

Good that HUVI is posting job openings because Ukrainians do want to work, don't want to be a burden and can be an asset to our economy.

I’m much more worried about homeless Canadians, forget finding homes for foreigners first. I’m sick of seeing billions of dollars being sent overseas to help fight a war that has nothing to do with us while people in our own country are struggling and homeless.

STAY in Europe!

Lol, try Winnipeg. Our locals are having a tough enough time as it is.

There is not enough housing for Canadians. Not sure where we expected refugees to go. 😔
