Kings is the third-most populated county in Nova Scotia and growing, with 63,000 people, according to the 2021 census.“We were fortunate enough that someone had a new build that was available to us,” Sweet said. She said the six-unit townhouse project has been underway for a while and she turned there when the family couldn’t find any other options.

“There are no spots, is what it really boils down to,” she said. “If you need more than two bedrooms, it’s not happening. If you need pet friendly, it’s not happening. If you have children, it’s not happening. People are hesitant, and the availability is extremely limited.” Sweet and her family are in a hotel until they their rental is ready. She said that has given her a new perspective when it comes to people who are homeless and being given temporary accommodations in hotels, as sometimes has happened in other communities.
