Accelerated Learning Academy purchased of a condo in the 22-story Cosmopolitan building in Houston. Such land deals involving public charter schools need to be examined.in the Express-News raised questions about the management of public funds at public charter schools. It pointed to several examples of schools whose leaders appeared to profit personally from real estate transactions.
These transactions are legal but uncommon. Those five examples come from nearly 900 public charter school campuses in Texas. The Texas Public Charter Schools Association and its members are working with lawmakers this legislative session to strengthen the law. We will put an end to deals that allow any person connected to a charter school to personally financially benefit on a real estate transaction.
