Fifty-two homes — a mix of two and three bedrooms — will be delivered across the state in the coming months, but housing advocates say it's not enough.

abc.net.au/news/could-prefab-homes-help-solve-the-housing-crisis/101998572Truckable, liveable homes within a month — could prefabricated builds be the quick fix to solve Queensland's housing crisis?

Housing advocates welcome the initiative but say the volume is nowhere near enough to tackle the social housing waitlist – which stands at 46,000 people.Rick Bell runs one of the companies building the prefabricated homes. "If that pilot project does what we hope it does, then we'll expect to see potentially more of these kinds of projects into the future," she said. The homes are designed to fit on the back of a truck and will be sent to Ipswich, Logan, Central Queensland and the Wide Bay, where they will be set up on land earmarked for social housing."These are potentially being constructed within a month's time, that just absolutely fast-tracks our ability to get them on the ground.

No... they'll become pretty rank and breed discontent and inequality. Maybe. Or yes they'll be a great way to integrate new tech into the home community

Better move out abc execs out of double bay, install wind turbines and add social housing for muslims and blacks. They need the close to work housing

Labor are trying...and failing, failing failing...at everything

Yes yes yes - gov resume land (cut out the scalpers), build a temporary community- desperately needed. Could even take 10yr lease on inner suburban blocks. A prefab concrete version can be used for those requiring “more robust” accommodations.

We need a 2 year rent freeze and an immediate drop in immigration for starters

Inflation is caused by increases in energy costs like the QLD government making a $5 billion profit and then going from 10% to 40% royalties. The homeowners are paying for this in higher interest, please do your job.

Who can afford 1 ?

Like they say: “if it’s too good to be true…” I wouldn’t trust it.

Sounds like a good idea maybe even expand it to rent so a portion of the rent goes toward reducing a future purchase price, plus they could be constructed on government owned land.

Look around, these are wasted blocks of land around suburbia areas that the older generations are holding onto need to be released, so many empty blocks doing nothing but growing weeds.

Slums of the future

No. Prefab is cute but the real problem is land release and the need for high density. A little cabin miles away from employment isn’t useful.

Pre fab housing is scam, and no it wont fix a thing. Why does the ABC push such 'wizard will fix it' non solutions to maintain the status quo? Because the ABC is state media, broadcasting the views of the ruling elites to maintain the status quo that they massively benefit from.

A modern ghetto.

Massive immigration is the driver behind the housing crisis.... but hey, it would be racist to mention the obvious.

ABC obviously do not understand the problem ..

Space out your right wing talking point garbage next time

Is stopping immigration, migration, the quick fix to Queensland's housing crisis? Australia

Why build a 2 bed house? Most want 3-4 minimum
