West Australian property developers will be able to circumvent local councils and access new infrastructure funding in major changes to planning laws designed to speed up the construction of thousands of apartments.

abc.net.au/news/wa-government-planning-laws-local-government/102008212Property developers will be able to circumvent "anti-development" councils and access new infrastructure funding in major changes to planning laws the McGowan government hopes will accelerate the construction of thousands of apartments.

The temporary 'Part 17 development pathway', introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020 to stimulate major construction projects worth more than $20 million, will be made permanent. "We're all tired of quality multi-dwelling proposals becoming a vehicle for grandstanding by anti-development councils and individuals facing re-election at local council level.

The $80 million Infrastructure Development Fund would help offset the costs of providing water, sewerage, and electricity services for proposed apartment developments in urban infill and METRONET station areas. "If we can bring them forward to the next two, they've already got development approval, that's what we're very keen to see."

You think the councils wield power? Just wait for the Voice.

Hell yeah! Sick of the NIMBY’s gentrifying neighbourhoods like mine, while they sit in their leafy green, western suburb, ivory towers complaining that anything to alleviate home insecurity near their place will destroy the historic culture of their pale ass street.

Pollies always cry when they have their toys (power) taken away from them...

So instead of accepting the fact that the people don't want unsustainable population growth and development Labor is going to force more apartment buildings on us? The majority of Australians want less migration and state and federal Labor ignores the will of the people.
