Some residents living in Upper Kirby said they're not opposed to the idea of affordable housing, they just want it somewhere else.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner moves forward with an affordable housing project in the Upper Kirby area despite pushback from nearby residents.People living in Upper Kirby are upset that city council passed a resolution that could bring more affordable housing to their neighborhood.

"I cannot vote no and feel good about it," Mayor Turner said. "I'm not going to give power to that negative element.""What the mayor said today was a great disservice to the conversation that was had up until this point," Alexander Vitenax, who lives behind the building, said. "This section has 89 homes. That project is 120 units coming in with all of the traffic coming through our small surface streets, creating even more traffic.

The resolution, along with 15 others on different developments throughout the city, will now go to a state representative.Houston wanted to lead the nation in long-term affordable housing. Now it's backpedaling. "He didn't even make the effort to talk to the homeowners' associations that collectively represent the households," Vitenax said. "Nor did he make any effort to talk to the adjacent neighbors along the property line."

"We told this developer time and time again, 'Engage the community.' And he didn't," she said. "Even after Council Member Kubosh, tagged it for an additional week. He didn't do it because he doesn't care."Turner and some other council members supported the resolution.

SylvesterTurner houmayor area needs to be River Oaks. If you are true to your word about diversity, this is the next area. There is a 2 acre empty lot on Inwood that is prime for diversity. Sadly, my guess is your diversity only works when it does not upset your handlers.

They just want to be nicely kicked out

Then they’re opposed to the idea of affordable housing.

What’s the point of building affordable housing if their not going to be any jobs in the area..what is it going to take for people to understand that..you can’t do anything without a stream of income..People need jobs..but unfortunately their aren’t any..close the borders now.

They say put that shit somewhere else!! 🤣🤣
