Southern Nevada Water Authority says it pays property owners three dollars a square foot to replace that grass with water efficient landscaping

Even if you don't live in the Southwest, scientists say everyone in the U.S. should be concerned about a shrinking Colorado River.

"If the lake goes down to a dead pool level, about 950 feet above sea level, no more water can go through Hoover Dam and go downstream to California, to the crops and the fields that are located there," Kreamer said."And that would be a pretty tremendous impact, not only for the Southwest but for the entire United States."

"Nevada passed a law about a year and a half ago that requires all commercial, and that would include homeowners associations, to remove all grass," Bryan said."That is what they call nonfunctional. So if you can't play on it." It's part of a series of incentive programs, Mack says, the Las Vegas area implemented in the early 2000s.

What does “nonfunctional” mean?

Now they need to build power plants so this electric crisis disguised as a water crisis will end….

I wish AZ would follow this example.

I take it golf courses are 'functional' grass

I mean, I'm here for it. I'm also waiting for the inevitable screaming from Scottsdale and PV about how it looks bad. 🤣

I don’t understand why this has to be a big story. Hear me out…. The GOVERNMENT offices and commercial buildings should be setting the example not telling your constituents to do it while watering commercial property grass in the middle of the day at 100+ degrees!

how about turning off, pausing timers on sprinklers when it's raining🤯🤯

Well, on the face of it, paying residents to stop growing grass is a good program to reduce water consumption. But the real problem is BigAgriculture that guzzles 74% of CAP water to grow crops incompatible with its arid region.
