The funding is coming from Nova Scotia's Internet Funding Trust and is part of a $53-million project to expand fibre internet access in Pictou County. The project is expected to be completed in 2025. In December, the federal government announced up to $31 million for the project, while the county is expected to contribute $10.6 million.

Residents and business owners in Pictou County and other parts of the province also have the option to get internet service through the provincial satellite internet rebate program.
