Agreement to provide infrastructure ‘at no cost to government’ in Wilton has resulted in muddled roads, blocks sold with no sewerage service – and it’s set to get worse

Suburban utopias can be deceiving, as the residents of the once small village of Wilton are discovering.new areas of Wilton are taking over paddocksThousands of houses are now being rolled out, but the infrastructure to support these new suburbs could be decades away.

Bingara Gorge, which was first started in the 2000s by LendLease, is now being built by Metro. Wilton Greens is being built by Risland. Wilton North is now owned by Landcom, while the town centre is owned by a fourth developer, Cameron Brae. But with four developers working independently, some critics say there is a real question mark about whether the infrastructure will be adequate, timely and coordinated.

The other parts of the Wilton project were approved for rezoning by the NSW government in just over a year, despite concerns from Wollondilly council about the lack of infrastructure. The promise from developers at the time was that they would be allowed to jump the queue on the basis of providing the necessary infrastructure “at no cost to government”.A community centre at Bingara Gorge has never materialised.

Yeah, handing things over to private companies has worked so well in the past!😂😅🤣😁😂🤣😅😆😆

We need faster public transport, so people can live away from the rat race. We have the Shanghai city’s population, on a vast rich continent, thanks to our real estate politicians, we have homelessness, housing shortage, and very high rents.

Thank god they have got rid of all those pesky trees, lets hope the roof is as black as the bitumen. How wonderful is 50°C.

So, it'll pass then.

local gov is privatising their jobs Councils used to be the last certifier of occupancy but they dumped it Now wild certifiers r under fixed contract to developers Sewer is a state responsibility They dumped it too

Ahhhh, but look at the flow of developer gold that fills the wallets of our political parties! Too irresistible. Can’t wait for emfarrelly to shake their tree!

Frankly IMO all new land developments must: . Not be smaller than 600 sq metres . Must have a min of 20% green space . Have solar panels 10k . Solar Hot water . Min 50000 litre water storage . EV charging . Public green space . Multiple access to development . Public transport

Classic real estate scam. Sell all the lots then skip “Phase 3” and bail.
