To rent within five kilometres of Sydney's CBD, people need to earn six figures or face housing stress, new data shows.9News

That narrows the ring of affordability for professions like police officers, nurses and cleaners to certain pockets of the outer suburbs including Mount Druitt, Merrylands, Ashfield and Revesby. "We have more families looking for childcare and increasing days and we're not sure that we're going to be able to accept those enrolments because we simply can't staff it," she told 9News.Financial technology company Zepto is based there and CEO Chris Jewell said it's also struggling to keep employees.

"We'd like to see planning laws that really facilitate mixed-use and more residential so that these dwellings can be built and that people can actually afford to live in them," Business NSW CEO Daniel Hunter told 9News.
