Party leader addresses conference in Cork, condemning Government’s ‘catastrophic’ failure on housing

She said a new government “must be a constructive force for progressive change”.

“The current conservative Coalition is just not working. Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil are perpetuating an unequal Ireland. This Government is lurching from crisis to crisis. They are failing the people of Ireland.”In her first address to Labour members since she became party leader, Ms Bacik said the “Government has turned to the private market to solve its own mess.

Ms Bacik said that a young mother recently contacted her “in despair, facing the cliff edge of eviction next week, with no prospect of finding another home anywhere in her community. And she is just one of thousands. She reiterated that the Labour Party wants to extend the eviction ban. The party will bring a motion of no confidence in the Government this coming week.

“A Government that is out of ideas, and out of time. A temporary extension of the ban would provide breathing space to increase housing supply. Not just to ramp up the tenant-in-situ scheme, but also to tackle vacancy and to undertake a massive rapid-build housing programme on public land. “And to introduce a new ‘use it or lose it’ rule to stop speculators from sitting on inactive residential planning permissions in rent pressure zones. We have a crisis. We need urgent action.”

Under the PPP and AHB funding, these homes are ALREADY in progress. Now MIDDLE IRISH TAXPAYERS. those fuming hardworking bill payers that can't AFFORD the 200,000 empty homes in Ireland. You think it's all about houses for those on benefits do you 😡and NO, they don't want flats

Never going to happen

That seems… ambitious. I’d really like to see some details.

274 homes per day?

Where are the builders coming from, she's going to quadruple the number of houses being built? has she spoken to all the contractors, are they in agreement that they can provide 4 times the amount they are providing now? if so questions need to be answered

She was on the radio today and said a 3 week course will produce the labourers. Disrespectful to the trades. Personally I don't want millions of extra homes and population growth. How does she marry such population growth with our climate targets, surely we need less people?

Labour are done for & they only have themselves to blame 🙄. They have lost what Labour is meant to be about. They need to get out of D4 coffee shops, stop pushing this trans/gender bullshitology & see that 'It's the economy, stupid'.

Not sure she connects with ppl.

As the saying goes “where there is a will there is a way” but sadly this is Ireland and judging by the failures of several past/current governments for decades, I have little hope for Ivana’s vision. Having said that, anything is possible..

For more Third Worlders... How to turn your own country into a sh*thole!

1 million homes to economic migrants as our replacement continues.

Lol

Under a labour housing minister in 2015 they built a total of 75 social houses during the housing crises. All they did was bring in austerity and zero solutions to the housing crisis.

Labour the delusional party… between the woke gender & Imaginary housing policy.. the script that around 10 or more well paid“ PR personal “ wrote , they should maybe write a comic strip .. more believable.

Not new thinking but copycat electioneering

Uncontrolled mass migration into an open borders social welfare state will only lead to one place.... You'll need this when you lot are done!

Why just one million? I wonder if Ivana Batshit has discovered a way to convert hot air into concrete… Tread softly because you tread on my dreams…

At what cost do we get that many new homes...take medical cards off sick children, cut lone parent payments, open more food banks?

I'm targeting earning 2m thus year regardless of the fact that in reality it will be nearer to 50k but there you go we can all dream ..... sigh

Labor built 75 social houses in 2015 when they were last in government

And I'm going to win the lottery tomorrow

Good for Labour pity they’ll never h get the chance

🤣🤣🤣

With Lego Sets. That is something from Cloud Cuckoo Land.

Who'll pay the taxes to fund it? ordinary workers on PAYE like we did in the 70s and 80s? I remember being taxed at the highest rate by Labour and Fine Gael when I was only earning the average industrial wage. At 17 I was an idealistic Labour Party member, at 21 I knew better.

I assume we're talking flats here?

Bravo

What will be the difference between the overpopulation in countries like China, India, & in 10 years, the destruction of Ireland due to overpopulation. Future generations will never have the experiences of a once beautiful country, consisting of mass transit, highways & people.

500,000 refurbished aparently. 😁😁😁😁😁

they should shut down & relaunch as property developers!

She's given me the scour..

Bad Chic, like the rest of her self absorbing feather nesters like Howlin, Barry, Fergus Finlay (the evil of two lessers with Spring) were well paid to stop the Big Theft many years ago but concentrated on PR, woke and clergy bashing. The rest, as they say, is history.

Shades of Startrek, going where the Labour Party or It's leaders, have never dared go before! Pie-in-the-sky land. If that number of homes gets built in a decade; It won't be because of Ivana Bacik or the Labour Party.Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (and Ivana really has diamonds).

Meanwhile, in the real world…

We can barley build 25k pa now but hey let’s just quadruple the figure and see if we can get a cheap headline. Density density and more density. No more councils etc buying private houses for cheap political gain. Councils need to build

Have they only just noticed? Did someone from their poverty-stricken front bench just end up at risk of homelessness? Have they stopped objecting to housing in Dublin yet?

Cork City will stretch from Crosshaven to Kerry County bounds soon because Labour intends to use construction producer credit to close the gap for a short period leaving us with even more embedded costs ! Californication.

Would they ever FO
