The government should start employing people from abroad to build Irish homes as part of an"aggressive" recruitment campaign for construction workers.
That is according to Ivana Bacik, who says that in order to meet the current shortfall in housing, one million homes need to be delivered in the next 10 years. Speaking at the Labour Party conference in Cork this weekend, Bacik said that Ireland could make up for the current deficit if 50,000 new homes are built and 50,000 homes are renovated every year for the next decade.that the current situation is as much a construction crisis as a housing crisis."To have an aggressive recruitment campaign for construction workers from abroad if necessary.

The standard of builds in Ireland are already pisspoor due to loose quality checks, greedy builders and poor enforcement of regs. Bringing in a lower standard of tradesmen from abroad will make things far worse.

If they are any good - they will already be gainfully employed in their home countries. Housing crises are everywhere.

That'll end well. The rush to build has resulted in some questionable quality control which I'm sure will raise its head again in a couple of years. Rogue builders, lack of training and suitably qualified people doing jobs they shouldn't be at. There's a site at the end...
