CCTV footage has been shared by police as part of an appeal to find a man who repeatedly used a hammer to break into a vehicle in a brazen daylight theft.

Police allege a man and woman are the culprits of the theft which occurred in Barkly St, Footscray on Thursday March 23.

The incident, which was captured on CCTV, occurred at 4pm when the pair approached a black 2023 MG sedan parked on the street. Video showed a claw hammer was handled to bust a hole in the front passenger window, with the woman then attempting to open the front door but to no avail.The man climbed into the front seat after smashing the window.

The man was seen smashing the window three more times to clear the loose glass before climbing into the front seat.Police said the pair left the scene and walked east along Barkly St while carrying the stolen property. The man was wearing a blue Tommy Hilfiger hoodie and matching tracksuit pants with Nike basketball shoes and a black peaked cap.He is described as approximately 30 years old with red hair and a beard.She is described as being around the same age, with brown hair and red highlights.Officers released images and CCTV footage with the hope someone could assist in the investigative process.
