About 10 people are being temporarily relocated after a small fire in a supportive housing building on Queens Avenue damaged a first-floor unit.
, said Tracey Robertson, community engagement manager for Victoria Cool Aid Society, which operates the building.“It was taken care of very quickly and everybody is just fine,” Robertson said. Damage is contained to the one unit on the first residential floor where the fire started, she said. Everyone on that floor is moving to another Cool Aid housing location or staying with friends until they can move back in.
“They’ll all be taken care of until they can move back into the building, which given the situation doesn’t look like it’ll be that long,” Robertson said. An official cause is not yet known, but the fire is believed to have started from an electrical cord in the unit, she said, emphasizing that it is not believed to be related to wiring in the building.
