On Tuesday, 18 April 2023, the City of Cape Town handed over the first ten homes to qualifying beneficiaries of the R101 million Sir Lowry’s Pass Village affordable housing project.Alderman James Vos, the City’s acting mayoral committee member for human settlements and human settlements directorate officials celebrated with the first beneficiaries and their families as they received the keys to their brand-new homes.

Alderman Vos stated that progress on this flagship project is steady and that the City anticipates providing many more opportunities to qualifying beneficiaries in the coming weeks.He added, ‘We continue to build hope in our communities through our housing projects, despite the great challenges that our teams face on a daily basis. We thank the contractors and City staff for their hard work thus far, and we look forward to providing many more opportunities in the months to come across the city.

Alderman Vos added that the City encourages its communities, civic organisations and beneficiaries to continue collaborating with them so that opportunities can be provided to beneficiaries as soon as possible. Beneficiaries of all City housing projects are chosen in accordance with the City’s Housing Allocation Policy and the City’s Housing Needs Register to ensure that housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner, preventing queue jumping and excluding those who qualify for housing under South African law.Residents can give anonymous tip-offs if they are aware of illegal activity that is taking place, that has happened, or that is still to happen.
