Architects’ proposal would enable builders to construct 30-80 own-door homes per hectare, without the need to build apartments

A state-approved model for low-rise, medium-density housing would make more sites in towns and cities viable to build on and foster Ranelagh and Stoneybatter-style neighbourhoods nationwide, the president of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland has said.

Charlotte Sheridan said this new model could help “break the cyclical nature of development in this country”. “This model is missing because of the standards that are in place that are too prohibitive to facilitate this type [of housing],” Sheridan told the Business Post.
