A teenager has been rushed to hospital and is fighting for life after being mowed down by an SUV in broad daylight in Melbourne's southeast.

Emergency crews rushed the local boy to Royal Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.The 46-year-old female driver of the Subaru SUV Wagon is cooperating with police and assisting them with their inquiries.

Neighbours reportedly rushed to help the teenager when he was hit on the highway outside Riversdale golf course in Mount Waverly. Anyone who might have witnessed the collision has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.Police were told a 14-year-old boy was struck by a SUV Wagon outside a residential property on High Street Road, opposite the Riversdale golf course, just after 8am.
