Some homes and businesses have been without out power in Wildwood since Friday afternoon.

Sweltering hotel rooms. Melting ice cream. Shuttered water parks. A Friday night in the summer in Wildwood usually means visitors packing the brightly-lit boardwalk, and stopping in their tracks to watch the weekly fireworks show. Instead, it was dark and quiet.

Even though some businesses and hotels had gotten power back by Saturday morning, much of the boardwalk remained without power, including the piers that usually attract families for rides, games and waterparks. More than 7,800 homes and businesses in Wildwood will continue to be without power through Saturday afternoon after a substation fire caused a power outage Friday, according to Atlantic City Electric.
