There are signs that mortgage holders could get more help if home repossessions start to increase amid rising interest rates.that Mr Hunt is open to looking again at what banks and lenders could be asked to do to ease the financial strain on families.

He suggested tax cuts should be introduced in the autumn to “sweeten the pill” for many homeowners seeing increased costs. Another former minister suggested the Government should consider stamp duty cuts and other measures to prevent the market from spiralling down. But multiple MPs admitted that the Government was very limited in what support it could offer if it wanted to avoid stoking inflation.
