Forward progress was stopped on a 60-acre fire that burned dangerously close to homes in the eastern foothills of San Jose Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters from CAL FIRE and the San Jose Fire Department have stopped forward progress as of late Thursday afternoon on a brush fire that had burned about 60 acres in the city's eastern foothills in unincorporated Santa Clara County.

CAL FIRE had said at about 3 p.m. that the fire was threatening structures near Clayton Road and Via de la Vista in the Alum Rock area. "I was quite worried. Fortunately, I built a fire breaks, and they prevented the fire from getting really close to my house," Sandoz said.
