Water Minister Tanya Plibersek says she won’t name a figure for water buybacks under the revamped Murray-Darling deal., to 2027, to meet water recovery targets under the $13 billion Murray-Darling Basin plan. In return, she opened the door to more controversial voluntary buybacks from farmers.
“There’s quite a bit of work to be done before we finalise that target because we need to assess ... the big infrastructure projects that are still happening, [and] how much water they will save.” Plibersek declared yesterday she would give the states an extra three years, to 2027, to meet water recovery targets under the $13 billion Murray-Darling Basin plan.
