'As a result of the cost of living crisis, there has been increased demand for discretionary housing payments'

The Housing Executive has reduced the length of time that Discretionary Housing Payments can be made to households in order to "maximise its available budget".

A Housing Executive spokesperson said: “Discretionary Housing Payments provide discretionary financial support primarily to those in the private rented sector with a shortfall in their housing costs.“In December 2021, support was extended beyond two years – this was to be kept under review and would be subject to budget availability.

“After review - and in order to ensure we effectively manage the remaining budget – we have decided to revert back to the previous position of not providing funding beyond two year period.
