People across the UK have been sharing their close encounters of the eight-legged kind on social media as scores of humungous spiders come out to play in the hot weather.
The end of August marks the start of house spider season and they are now starting to emerge from hide away in places like attics and garages. They have been making themselves know by crawling along our bedroom walls, in our bathrooms and scampering along the carpet as they the prowl for a mate.
An expert previously told the Mirror: "The spider that is coming into houses at the moment is the house spider and it is one of Britain's biggest spiders. The males are up to 10cm across the leg span and can be the size of your hand - that is the top range but it can be two-thirds of that size. Sharing your house with spiders might seem like a terrifying idea, but it's important to know that they aren't interested in harming you. They also help by controlling other pests in your home by eating any insect that flies or crawls, including moths, ants, flies, mosquitoes, aphids and beetles.
