The information-gathering process, which took place in George, Drakenstein, and Breede Valley, was completed at the end of January.

The George Municipality will soon have access to data collected from drones and on-foot surveys following the recent successful completion of a second joint GPS project with the Western Cape department of human settlements, reportsThe socio-economic household information, GPS coordinates and aerial imagery gathered in local informal settlements during the project will inform, among other things, housing allocations based on the true circumstances of applicants.

This survey aimed to update the information about the constantly changing informal areas collected during the GPS pilot project between 2015 and 2017. It also incorporated drone technology to gather aerial photographic data. George Municipality was selected by the provincial department to partner in the programme for three reasons:
