.pwafork on a ‘per capita recession’: People who have been saying that our immigration intake is too high for years, have been saying the GDP gains we get aren’t actually real, they are being spread out too thin. MORE: outsiders

Sky News Political Editor David Speers says new data revealing the economy grew by just 0.2 per cent over the December quarter, will serve to ‘sharpen up debate’. A downturn in the housing market, and severe drought are being blamed for the national economy ‘nearly grinding to a halt’.

After the figures were released on Wednesday, Labor blamed the Coalition for what it is calling a 'per capita recession'. Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has dismissed talk of a recession, and Mr Speers has agreed, saying, ‘we need to be careful about what we say here’ as the figures ‘don’t technically mean we’re in a recession'.
